Excellent, thoughtful and practical. I will read it several times. As a psychologist and a sufferer of severe depression, I was dismayed that you did not include ECT. As the "gold standard" in suicide treatment, it is not a common mainstream treatment, but it has saved my life several times, such that I could use the other treatments.
I thought your quote of O'Connor about therapists and their inability to intuit without experience was especially poignant. That was me. I thought I knew...but my God, when I got past my first episode I felt like I should send apology notes to ex patients. I look forward to your coming articles.
Thank you martha
