I'm a retired clinical psychologist. (BA University of Maryland, MA and PhD from Catholic University, Postdoctoral fellowship in clinical child psychology- McLean Hospital-Harvard Medical School). Professor- George Mason University, Consultant- National Institutes of Health, private psychotherapy practice.
My writing on Medium covers mental illness, from a professional and personal perspective, loss and grief, motherhood, marriage, women's issues and the occasional silly post with no redeeming social value.
I have published five books with traditional publishers: Undercurrents: A Life Beneath the Surface, Chasing Grace, The Common Bond, An Unlikely Friendship and A Season of Mercy, and several books have been adapted for Reader's Digest. I have written for the New York Times, the Washington Post, Harper's Bazaar, Mirabella, and have been featured in People Magazine, profiled along with Mike Wallace and William Styron in the HBO Emmy nominated documentary, Dead Blue. My writing has been included on NPR.
I love making points by telling stories and am happy to see the increase in personal essay and memoir publications.
