I'm a retired clinical psychologist. My writing on Medium relates to mental illness/mental health, loss, grief, motherhood and the process of getting old (under protest). I'm a mother who was a wife for 43 years, until I got dumped this year. I believe in our capacity to change, as well as our capacity to experience joy, no matter where we find ourselves.
Being divorced and having a grown daughter who lives in Sweden, has cast me into 2 situations I never expected to be in and it has taken my writing in different directions.
My writing uses my own experience to connect to more universal experiences. Even though it seems like I focus on a lot of downer themes, I actually love writing humor--typically at my own expense.
I have traditionally published five books: Undercurrents: A Life Beneath the Surface, Chasing Grace, The Common Bond, An Unlikely Friendship and A Season of Mercy. I have written for national magazines and newspapers and performed for the Moth Storytelling theatre, which I've loved.
At the age of 70, I am behind the curve when it comes to anything more complex than writing on cave walls. But I'm trying. I love to write. I also love the chance to correspond with readers through the comments section on Medium, which has really expanded my perspectives
